Communication is not Apolitical

Mula sa CommWeek 2022 ng FEU Department of Communication

It is indeed true that Communication is essential in the midst of sociopolitical issues.  We have the capacity to expose and confront the social realities as we aim to create a safe space for discussions and discourses. We contribute to the formation of a critical public sphere where people from all walks of life could freely exchange ideas, informed opinions, and recommendations on how we can continuously move forward to national progress and development anchored in truth, justice, and freedom.

I strongly assert that we can only achieve genuine and positive social transformation if we take the side of truth, justice, and freedom. Siding with the truth, justice, and freedom means making a stand against historical revisionism, social injustices, and all forms of oppression.

Thank you FEU Communication Society for making a stand that we will never be apolitical. Salamat sa pagtindig!

As a community of critical thinkers, it is impossible to be in neutral stance.

The FEU Department of Communication is with you, our dear students, in advocating may alam, may pakialam philosophy.

Wherever we go, we can bravely face the future because we are equipped with the knowledge and skills that can be deliberately utilized to sincerely care for the people:

Communication for the people, and not for the ruling class.

Communication for social change, and not for the status quo.

Communication for the oppressed, and not for the hegemony.

Komunikasyong mulat, malaya, at mapagpalaya! Ito ang tatak Comm ng FEU mula noon hanggang ngayon, at magpakailanman.

Communication is not apolitical!

As I end, let us not forget what the FEU Hymn engraves in our hearts every time we sing it:

In thy happy halls,

Our young heart saw the light;

Command thy sons and daughters

To battle for the right
